Call with questions before the first day of the course!!!! 575-202-6886 Tom
LOCATION: BUTTERFIELD RANGE
LAS CRUCES 8AM – 6PM
You may use any RELIABLE magazine fed, semi-automatic or select fire rifle. The AR-15 clones or AK 47 type rifles will serve you best in this course. Rifles may be equipped with any optical sight or iron sights.
Battle rifles are MOST effective and reliable when equipped with BOTH optical (red dot) and iron sights.
Call us (575-202-6886) for our recommendations on the most appropriate sights for your tactical rifle.
Caliber Standards
You may use either .223(5.56) or .308(7.62) caliber firearms. Use of steel core or armor piercing rounds and handloaded ammunition is prohibited.
We require a sling for your gun to ensure safety while walking to and from the firing lines and when receiving instruction on the range areas.
Both tactical and standard slings will work just fine.
You may reload your rifle from your belt mounted magazine pouch /holder or from a weight bearing tactical vest. Any methods are acceptable as long as they are SAFE!
–Bring at least three (3) spare magazines for your rifle. More is better
You must also bring a revolver or semi-auto pistol to function as your secondary weapon. This is a practical training program and you will be required to integrate, deploy and engage threats with your secondary weapon in specific situations. The secondary weapon MUST be secured in a strong side holster or a tactical thigh holster only.
Ammunition REQUIREMENTS (Minimum) You will probably want to practice longer!
Rifle
200 rounds and your iron sights MUST already be sighted in at 25 yards. If you need a standard military sighting target, we can email a copy to you.
We reccomend a 36 yard sightied point of aim for your red dot sights.
Ammunition must be factory loaded FMJ, hollow point or soft point ammunition.
Use of steel core or armor piercing rounds is prohibited.
These rounds are dangerous because of ricochet and tear up some of our metal targets.
We will do random magnet checks to ensure compliance.
Pistol
100 rounds of factory loaded ammunition (FMJ is fine)
At least one spare magazine or speed loader.
YOU MAY NOT USE hand-loaded ammunition for any part of this course! WHY?—Because it creates UNNECESSARY LIABILITY and injury exposure for both you and your INSTRUCTORS.
Come have a GREAT time with the Border Tactical Training Team
EYE AND HEARING PROTECTION
Every participant in the course will be required to WEAR EYE and HEARING protection during ALL FIRING range activities. Eyewear should have ANSI impact approved polycarbonate lenses. We recommend full side panel eye protection coverage.
BASEBALL TYPE HAT
A hat with a bill on it will keep hot brass from landing between your shooting glasses and your face or in your eye. Wear one at all times while on the firing line.
Knee Pads REQUIRED
The firing range surface is very rough and we still find glass mixed with the rocks and other debris on the range. You WILL firing from the kneeling and prone positions in some of the training drills.
DO NOT BRING LIVE AMMUNITION OR LOADED RIFLES INTO THE RANGE AREA until we ask for them!
Rifles will be slung and handguns holstered at all times except on the firing line. Inventory all your gear and equipment before you load up for the range. It is a LONG WAY back home!
